Last December, my son took me on a pre-Christmas treat at Geonbae. It was a lovely mother and son date in a modern Korean bar & grill located at UP Town Center, Katipunan Avenue. We were warmly welcomed by a receptionist who explained to us the popular buffet sets.

Geonbae, a contemporary restaurant, is technologically advanced. We can simply scan a QR code using our mobile phones and place an order through the "digital menu". The place was not fully packed and customers practice social distancing so we felt safe and comfortable, and excited in using Genobae's digital app. We got a corner table near the cashier so it was quite easy for us to inquire about the menu and ask for more side dishes.

With the unlimited set menu that costs P599 per person, my son and I enjoyed various Korean food - unli beef, pork, maki, seafood, side dishes, dipping sauces, and extras. But when it comes to meat, we just love the juicy and tender Samgyeopsal (pork belly) and Pork Bulgogi. One of the secrets of having that sumptuous taste is not to overcook the meat, wrap it with with crunchy, fresh lettuce, and dip it in Ssamjang, Sesame Salt, or Honey Gochugang. To create that bursting Korean fusion, try dipping it once or twice on the Cheese Dip.

I am not a huge fan of Korean soups but what excites my appetite is the tuna sashimi and tempura maki. The Crispy Shrimp Tempura was served in threes that you keep on ordering for more! What makes it special is the sweet teriyaki sauce drizzled on top. Just imagine the wonderful combination of the crunchy shrimp tempura and the magical Korean sauce.

After two hours of relishing the unli buffet, my foodie Christmas wish is to go back at Geonbae again on 2021. Hoping that we'll be able to enjoy Korean food once more.
